Greetings, faithful Beardateers! There's some changes afoot. You might notice that all the old songs on this site have been taken down. That's right, every single song-- GONE! Just like that. If you missed your chance to download our first album (We Are The Teeth, 2003) for FREE, please accept our condolences.

Our second album (Rico's Song, 2005) will be posted here soon, and for a limited time you will be able to download it for FREE! Then what we're going to do, see, is we're going to take that album down and put up our third album (Shit's On Sale, 2007). And so on and so forth. Can you dig it?

'It's The Fireplace' is an example of what we here at Miracle Beard Studios like to call a 'Pure Beard Statement': a spur-of-the-moment make-it-up-as-you-go recording that ultimately breaks beneath the weight of its own absurdity. This is Absurdism with an emotional core: a sense that yeah, this song might be silly, but so am I and so are you and we are all in this together, huddled up close, warm against the winter.

This song was born right at the end of a frustrating recording session back at The Rooftop Shack. Nothing was going right: equipment failures galore, headaches, hangovers... Ronnie C. and I were about to say "Aw, F**K It" and go grab some beers. "Wait a second," RC said as he sat down on the couch and grabbed the keyboard. I flipped on the ol' four-track and we recorded this Instant Beard Classic.

This is an old psychedelic blues tune that we learned from Little Blind Slim down at the crossroads near the train yard. We recorded this tune in 1922, a full 51 years before we were even born. That's time travel for you!

But seriously-- this was one of the very first songs Ronnie C. and I ever recorded. We recorded this track straight to dictaphone during a tequila-fueled frenzy. 100% Lo-Fi Goodness!
